MEETING WITH DEREK HODGSON, COMMUNICATION WORKERS
UNION - 4 MAY 1999

I attach for briefing for the above meeting.
2. The briefing covers the following:

a) general brief, including objectives;

b) White Paper timing and liaison with CWU;

c) conversion of the Post Office to a plc;

d) future pay arrangements;

e) liberalisation - reduction of monopoly to 50p;

f) Horizon;

g) Crown conversions; and

h) Procedures for Approving Post Office Investments/Borrowing.

3. Mr Byers will be meeting Mr Hodgson on 5 May and this brief is intended to cover
that meeting as well.
