explained and reminded of legal rights and signed at
18.16. Solicitor still not required at this time.
2.06 Confirmed still no friend required.
SM Confirmed no questions asked during the break.
AM Shows copy of CS025 receipt for £475, which was handed
over this morning.
3.10 AM Explains that this money is without prejudice
AM Asks for proposals on repayment of shortage.

3.47 SM Says that she cannot pay all of it straight away but has
to make arrangements with regard to salary and shop
takings. Will try and get some money from family and
friends.

5.38 sM Says they have another property, which is rented out.
Management company are holding the rent for 3 years.
Financial details taken regarding property.

AM Explains he found building plans for another property but

nothing to do with SM.

8.32 Current property is leasehold with 6 to 7 years lease left
(renewable). Paid £200k for business with a £67k mortgage.
Living accommodation is rented.

10.19 AM Summarises:

Audit team found shortage of around £79k SM admitted it is
due to staff thefts of £89k in 2006. Staff no longer work

there and SM has completed the BTS every 4 weeks on which

false figures have been entered.
SM accepts it is dishonest and she has gained by keeping

the Post OfficeO. SM has tried to repay the shortage and

will continue to do so.
AM “Was it you that stole that £890002”
SM “No”
AM “Have you ever stolen any money from the Post Office©?”
SM “No not a single penny”
12.49 JL Clarification with SM that she has falsified the cash on
hand figures and made up the cash in pouches figures.
AM Gives opportunity to say anything
14.07 SM “I haven’t taken a single penny out, I wanted to rectify
this, I wanted to clear this up. I know I done a bad thing
but in that situation I had to do it to save my business”.
