The above named Defendant appeared at Stafford Crown Court for sentence on 19 January
2007, having pleaded guilty to the single count Indictment at an earlier hearing on
15 November 2006. A basis of plea was agreed as follows “The Defendant stole £94,000 from
the post office having begun to do so on return from holiday in August 2002. The remaining
deficit of £188,000 may have been the result of incompetent accounting or possibly theft by
other person(s).” The Defendant was sentenced as follows:-

CHARGE SENTENCE

1 Between 1 March 2002 and 14 July I Two years imprisonment
2003 stole £282,000 in money
belonging to Post Office Ltd.
(Contrary to Section 1 of the Theft
Act 1968)

In view of the Defendant's financial position, no order was made in relation to costs or
compensation.
