Government response to Mr Bates v Post Office
I would like to thank you for your role in leading the Government's response to the ITV drama Mr
Bates v Post Office.
We all hoped, and indeed publicly stated, that the drama would be a catalyst for more victims to come
forward and that expectation has been exceeded.
In your statement to the House of Commons on Monday (8 January) and in response to the Urgent
Question yesterday (10 January) you set out clearly the complexity of the Horizon IT scandal as well
as all the work to ensure that convictions are overturned and compensation achieved as quickly as
possible.
I listened to the PM programme on Radio 4 yesterday and thought that you were clear and candid.
I look forward to continuing to work with you as we expedite even faster the exoneration and
compensation that those wrongly accused deserve.
