Introductions [5 minutes]
Agree objective of session
For Pathway to appraise and discuss with Horizon Technical Assurance the integrity
characteristics of the Pathway solution to allow assurance of the solution and assist in
the achievement of a positive NR2 Release Authorisation Board recommendation in
the areas covered.

Interactive presentation followed by discussion, including:
e Underlying philosophy regarding provision of business data integrity
© How do the applications leverage integrity from the infrastructure; any
application design rules for integrity
© The Riposte paradigm? vs the conventional Oracle paradigm; consistency
across the boundary
e¢ Committal of transactions/events
© Referential integrity (where messages may be archived; where complex data structures
are overlaid onto the Riposte message store, eg in BES)
Handling of delays and time-outs (eg ISDN failure delaying replication)
Handling of power failures or crashes
Handling of cut-offs and any end of day operations
Exception handling (eg where duplicates occur)
Integrity monitoring in live operation (how is loss of integrity detected /handled)
© What failure analysis has been performed
© Specific cases (if time allows - otherwise at future session):
¢ BPS - message flows for normal/foreign/ISDN down/helpdesk
transactions/stops; duplicates, failed stops (how can occur, how
detected/ handled)
e APS - cut-offs/reversals and end of day processing
¢ EPOSS - preservation of integrity/balance in SU/ office

1 Assume that we understand underlying Riposte facilities such as replication, CRCs, strict si
numbering etc - no need for presentation on Riposte per se, the interest here is how the application
builds on it.
