Juliet,
To update you on the case with Skinner.
Wendy Lyell, a witness in the case has been dismissed from North Bransholme although she handed
in a letter of resignation at the same time. Included in the letter was a paragraph regarding the loss at
the Branch. Ms Lyell wrote that she made a mistake handing out a bag of £2 coins to a giro business
customer in error totalling £560. She stated she will repay this amount. Ms Lyell then states she
takes no responsibility for the further £2,000 loss. A copy of the letter is to be forwarded to me for
reference.
The Subpostmisstress, Mrs Wisker, said she has spoken to the other clerk involved, Avril. She states
that Miss Lyell called her at home prior to leaving for work to say she had taken £2,000 from her
sealed pouch. Ms Lyell said it was because her stock was short.
On this day, Ms Lyell, who was day off, knew that her stock would be checked by Mrs Wisker due to.
the £560 loss. On all other occassions, Ms Lyell, as officer in charge, was made aware which stocks
were going to be checked. This was the first occassion hers was subjected to a check, therefore it
could be that the £2,000 was an accumilation of money or one loss.
Mrs Wisker has informed the police of this incident and is awaiting statements to be taken from the
staff including Avril.
Miss Wisker will keep me informed of the case.
Please find attached a revised evidence sheet with the requested items, DH4, DH5 and DD3 removed.
