\ 22/03/2007 15:42 Subject: HUGHIE NOEL THOMAS - SUSPENDED POSTMASTER
\e GAERWEN POST OFFICE - BRANCH CODE: 160/604
Mick,
Mr Thomas was Postmaster at Gaerwen PO from 9 June 1994 to 13 October 2005 when his Contract for
Services was suspended. We are currently holding a deficiency of £50,247.59 in the former Postmaster's
‘late account’.
Our records indicate that Mr Thomas pleaded guilty to all charges in relation to the shortages at Gaerwen
PO when he appeared in Court in November 2006. It is understood that attempts are to be made to
recover funds from the 'proceeds of crime act’ and that an initial hearing was planned for February 2007.
In these circumstances there would seem to be little point in me writing to Mr Thomas for repayment at
this time.
I understand that you may be involved with this matter. Would you be able to confirm if the initial hearing
took place and, if so, has there been any further developments to report or is likely to be a long drawn out
process.
Any comments would be appreciated.
Kind Regards
Clive Burton
