As discussed; we are of a mind now to close this case, from the Post Office perspective. There is
little chance that the case could proceed, even with further evidence, due to the so called
‘Horizon’ defence mentioned by Rita O'Reilly . Unfortunately the Post Office is some time away
from employing a Horizon subject matter expert to appear in court to help us oppose such
claims of defence.
Can I ask for the Police crime reference number of this case, which I will require for
my closure report.
Many thanks for your assistance in this case Elaine, I know it has been a long and difficult
matter to investigate, but hopefully any future such investigations will be robustly assessed,
when raised, whether there is a reasonable prospect of prosecution, at least until we get our
subject matter expert.
