REGINA v JANET LOUISE SKINNER

HULL CROWN COURT

CONFISCATION HEARING - 25" MAY 2007
CASE NO: POLTD/0607/0108

Patricia Doherty represented the Post Office in the above matter. The
Defendant appeared and was represented by a new Counsel.

The Defence indicated that they will be inviting the Court to rule that the
proceedings are an abuse of process. In their view it is wrong to bring
confiscation proceedings where as in this case the Defendant faced a charge of
false accounting. The case has therefore been adjourned until the 29" August
2007 for a full hearing.

The Defence have been asked to serve a Skeleton Argument as to the abuse
by the 22" June and the prosecution to respond by the 13" July.

The Officer will be required to attend the hearing unless excused.

Counsel has suggested that we invite the Court to consider the case of
Thomas recently before the Mold Crown Court. This was a similar case where
I understand the issue was not contested. I will make arrangements to obtain
a transcript from the Court as soon as possible.
